I already told you a little about me in my sidebar profile but if you care to know more, read on.
First and foremost I am a Christian. I am a sinner saved by God's grace through faith. Without Him I am nothing. He is my all. Life is only worth the living because He lives. He has given me so much to be thankful for -life, the gift of salvation, an amazing family, a beautiful home, caring friends etc, etc- and in return I want to give Him my very being and existence. I want to serve Him with every minute of my life and do all to glorify God. It is my life purpose to bring Him glory and let my light shine to others so that they may come to know Him and also bring Him glory.
I have grown up in a Christian home along with my mother and seven brothers and sisters: 3 boys and 4 girls. I wont lie. Its pretty crazy at times. Especially when my aunt and cousins come for an extended visit ;). But I wouldn't have it any other way. I am the oldest of the girls but I have two older brothers. Even though our ages range from 23 to 12 we have always been good friends with one another. The household doesn't stop with the mother and 8 children. We also have a small, furry dog, and even smaller, furry kitten, a Mamma cat and a moody horse.
I've always had a love for animals. Horses in particular. It was always my dream as a little girl to own one someday. Wish granted. But my love for animals didn't stop there. I had cows, goats, chickens, dogs, cats, rabbits, fish and who knows what else growing up. I was happiest when surrounded by animals. In highschool I began studying animals more indepthly and my love for them grew even more. When I took a course in Marine Biology I was hooked. I just knew I had to work with animals in some capacity. However, it took me two years after highschool graduation to realize what is was, exactly, that I wanted to do. Well, not even exactly. I still don't know exactly. But I realized that animals weren't only beautiful and fun but also that they were one of God's amazing creation and He created them because He wanted them here on earth. He created them and said "It was good". The magnificence of animals really brings Him glory. They show His power and handywork.
As I look at the earth and the habitats and animals therein I see that magnificence fading away. I see amazing creatures that have been driven from existence. I see many more following down that path. I see habitats growing smaller and smaller providing fewer and fewer homes for their inhabitants. I see a beautiful earth disappearing. And this stirs in my heart so much. I want to give my life to protect God's creation. It wont be here forever. But I can nurture it while it is. So world conservation, here I come. After all, God is a conservationist too! He may have flooded the world once but He took precautions for the survival of His animals. God had a species survival plan. =) "And of every living thing of all flesh you shall bring two of
every sort into the ark, to keep them alive with you; they shall be male and female. Of the birds after their kind, of animals after their kind, and of every creeping thing of the earth after its kind, two of every kind will come to you to keep them alive." ~Genesis 6:19-21
Also, I recognize animals as one of the best ways to witness to people both young and old. Most people in the world are taught the theory of evolution. Their minds are polluted with millions of years from an early age. Open any child's science book and you'll see what I'm talking about. But the truth is that God made animals within the 7 days of creation. They were made by Him, not a big bang. But there are so many animals that defy evolution in their very makeup. This is a strong witness tool! Take a moment and think of the great conservationist you know. Jane Goodall. Steve Irwin. Jeff Corwin. They all have done and are doing exceptional work in the world of science. They have done much to study and protect animals and educate the public about them. But they are giving the wrong message. Just think if one of them had been a Christian and taught about God along with animals. What a Godly influence that would have been! Now, I'm not saying I want to be the next Jeff Corwin but I do want to reach people, children in particular with the truth of God's word through the use of animals.
So this is my life goal. To give God glory primarily through conservation and education.
I am have been pushing towards this goal for the last year or so now. I've barely begun my work in the conservation field by working with the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network and Moody Garden's Aquarium. I've long been in the field of education. My family and I teach science classes in our home for young children. I'm excited to see where my passion for science and education will take me.
Up to this point in my life there is not much more to know about me. I hope I haven't scared you away and you stick around to enjoy the rest of my blog. Thanks for reading.
Until next time,
Juliana.
