Because He lives I can face tomorrow. Because He lives all fear is gone. Because I know He holds the future. Life is worth the living just because He lives!

Picture of the Week

This is a picture of the partial solar eclipse that could be seen over Texas this past Sunday evening. The red circle is the moon passing in front of the sun. Isn't it amazing? God's creation is truly the most spectacular thing. What an amazing Creator! "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth His handywork." ~ Psalms 19:1. Glory be to God for His amazing power.

Until next time,
Juliana.

Versatile Blogger Award!

I have been award with the Versatile Blogger Award by Britt over at www.encouragementforeverydaystruggles.blogspot.com. By the way, thanks so much, Britt.

I believe what I'm supposed to do is write seven random facts about myself and then award 15 other bloggers. Hm... I'm not sure I follow 15 other blogs but I'll pick a few I do follow.

Here are the facts ~

  1. Without a doubt I think horses are God's most amazing creation. They are my favorite animal.
  2. I don't really have a favorite color. I always say its blue but really, I can't ever decide.
  3. I wish I lived on Galveston Island.
  4. Reading is one of my favorite past times but I'm extremely picky about the books I read.
  5. Proverbs is currently my favorite book of the Bible. So.Much.Wisdom.
  6. I've dissected a whale.
  7. I can't bring myself to leave the house without make-up on. Is that bad??

I award ~

Oh, What a Beautiful Day!

And a beautiful day it is! Have you been outside today? Its gorgeous. At least in my neck of the woods. Its a  perfect day for a celebration - my favorite celebration.

Today is Earth Day.

Every year on April 22nd the world celebrates Earth Day. It is a day to take time to appreciate the beauty of the earth and raise awareness for its environment.

Earth day is a tricky holiday. A lot of the time people associate "saving the earth" with a bunch of wacko people who worship the trees and that kind of attitude. But we shouldn't think of it that way at all. Especially if we are Christians. God tells us all throughout the Bible that we are to take care of the earth.

Psalms 8:6-9 says ~ "You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen—Even the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!"

He put the earth under our care. He created it and made it perfect and beautiful. It is our responsibility to keep it that way. I like to think of earth day as a reminder of that. A day where we think to thank God for his creation and purpose to take care of it.

Enjoy these beautiful pictures of our incredible earth.

Which landscape is your favorite?

Wherever you are take the time to enjoy this beautiful day and appreciate all that God created! We live in a magnificent world! Remember to care for it.

Until next time,
Juliana.

Homemade Organic Pesticides

This afternoon I went out to look at the garden. Its become one of my favorite past times. Who knew pulling weeds could be so fun? Every time I go out to check up on the ever growing seedlings I notice something new. A new sprout here, a flower there. Only today, I noticed little holes in the leaves of my precious okra plants. The bugs had been there. And not only had they been there but they had also visited my bell pepper plant. And now, the war is on.

We are trying to steer clear from using any chemicals in our garden so I didn't want to buy any pesticides. I'm sure they make organic ones but I decided it would be faster, easier, and cheaper to make my own. I read several webpages looking for the best recipe and found that almost everyone uses the same recipe! It must work. And I'm going to give it a try. All you need is...

Ground Red Pepper

Chopped Garlic
Vegetable Oil
(Hehe, so far it sounds like it would taste pretty good! Those bugs must be crazy.)

Water

Dish Soap (no bleach)
And all you have to do is simply add the first four ingredients in a bowl. Let them soak over night. Then pour them into a blender, give it a buzz. Strain out any large pieces, pour in some soap and presto! Your own, home made, all natural organic pesticide. As easy as 1,2,3. All you have to do now is put it in a clean spray bottle and use when your ready.

I plan on trying it out today or tomorrow. I hope it works. I'll keep you updated.

Until next time,
Juliana.

Our Garden's Growing!

By what must be God's goodness - because we have no idea how to garden - our seeds are sprouting!!! Our raised beds have gone from a brown, soil-filled boxs to beautiful green growing gardens. With an exception of the lettuce and cabbage everything we planted sprouted! (To find out what all we planted click here.) Here are a few pictures of our seedlings.
Peas!
Beets!

My sister Angelica made the name cards. She made one for each kind of vegetable we planted, only I lost the one she made for peas... I need to find that. Aren't they cute though? To see more pictures of the garden click here.

Hopefully in a few months we will be eating plenty of home grown vegetables!

Until next time,
Juliana.
